Construction on the north block of Second Avenue between Union Street and Church Street is now complete as part of the Second Avenue Rebuild. That section of the road re-opened to vehicle traffic the morning of June 3, 2024.
Second Avenue Rebuild project managers and partners, as well as business owners on Second Avenue cheered as the first cars drove up the north block for the first time since construction began in May 2023.
The reopened north block has a renewed emphasis on the pedestrian experience. These features include wider sidewalks with new brick pavers, Dark Sky-approved streetlights, a prominent mid-block pedestrian crossing and additional landscaping with new planters.
Second Avenue Rebuild efforts are in response to the blast on Christmas Day 2020. The rebuild is being led by the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency on behalf of the city.
